Pagasa: Rainy Monday over Visayas, Luzon areas due to LPA, 'habagat'
MANILA, Philippines —Scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail over Visayas and Luzon, including Metro Manila due to the combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as ‘habagat,’ the state weather bureau said before dawn Monday.
However, the LPA, estimated some 570 kilometers (kms) east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 695 kms east of Daet, Camarines Norte, has a slim chance to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, weather specialist Robert Badrina said.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA would bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Aurora, Bulacan, Quezon, and Rizal.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has been affecting Metro Manila, Visayas, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) where similar weather patterns would be likely, according to Pagasa.
Areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga would be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also caused by habagat, Pagasa added.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours due to localized thunderstorms.
